Business Studies
The Business Studies department endeavours to deliver a curriculum that is engaging and inspiring, and which reflects the demands of a truly modern and evolving business environment. We want to enable our pupils to develop as commercially minded and enterprising individuals and help them to succeed in their chosen pathway.
The Curriculum
Key Stage 3
Pupils in Year 9 receive one 60 minute lesson a week with homework set on alternate weeks. Pupils complete a range of activities that include an independent research project, a creative packaging project and an opportunity to work with Subway.
KS3 Curriculum Map Business Studies
Key Stage 4
Pupils in Years 10 & 11 receive three 60 minute lessons a week with homework set once a week. The two year GCSE course is externally examined with the Edexcel examination board, (2 written exams). Pupils are taught in mixed ability groups. Progress is tracked and monitored in accordance with agreed procedure. Pupils complete a range of both formal and informal assessments in the form of extended writing activities in class, as well as mock and summative assessments.
For Key Stage 4, the Business department organises support sessions over several hours in a week, whereby intensive revision programmes, assessment guidance and mentoring support is offered.

Extended Curriculum
After School Clubs
For Key Stage 4, the Business department organises support sessions over several hours in a week, whereby intensive revision programmes, assessment guidance and mentoring support is offered.
Revision/Catch-up Sessions
Exam Revision – Monday 3.00–4.00pm with Ms Calveley in room 141.
Homework and Independent Learning
Key Stage 3 – Homework is set alternate weeks. Pupils are provided with a booklet that contains a variety of activities that align with the current topic of study.
Key Stage 4 – Homework is set on a weekly basis. Pupils are provided with a booklet that contains a variety of written answer questions. The language of the questions align with the language of the exam paper and correct application of the GCSE Mark Scheme is used when marked.
