Rose System Scaffolding Limited based in Oldham, are looking to employ six apprentice scaffolders. The closing date for applications is 30 April 2021, with a view to starting in May. However, Lynsey our Positive Steps adviser thinks that this could be pushed back for successful applicants.

NCS (NATIONAL CITIZEN SERVICE) PROGRAMME 2021

The NCS programme offers young people, aged 15-17 (15 year olds must have completed year 11), a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something meaningful with their summer break, as well as a chance to develop skills (in line with the Skills Builder framework) and take on new challenges that will set them up for adult life. They'll also do something good for their local community, carrying out a project to support a cause they care about.

3 week summer programme

Week 1 – a residential outdoor education experience to develop confidence, team bonding and team-work skills.

Week 2 – a non-residential experience focusing on developing young people’s independence, understanding of their communities and the world of work.

Week 3 – a non-residential experience where young people design and deliver a social action project.

2 week summer programme

Week 1 – a non-residential experience focusing on developing young people’s confidence and independence, team-work skills and understanding of their communities and the world of work.

Week 2 – a non-residential experience where young people design and deliver a social action project.

NCS operates in line with the National Youth Agency (NYA) Covid Readiness Framework to ensure its programmes are delivered in a Covid-secure manner. In the event that residentials are not possible this summer all programmes will follow the two week model.

Bury College is hosting a presentation evening live on Microsoft Teams on:

6.00pm-7.00pm

The presentation has been designed to inspire Year 11 pupils and to continue to support engagement and raise aspirations.

Throughout the presentation, there will be the opportunity for your pupils and their parents/carers to ask any questions.

THE MANCHESTER COLLEGE

FREE VIRTUAL DANCE WORKSHOPS

We have another exciting opportunity for year 10 and 11 pupils to get involved in - The Manchester College Dance and Musical Theatre team are offering free workshops over the Easter half term (see attached flyer for further details).

Whether pupils have already applied to join us in September, or they are considering making an application for September 2021 or 2022 entry, or students just love dance and musical theatre, these virtual workshops will be a great way for pupils to get a taste of what studying Performing Arts at The Manchester College is all about.

These virtual workshops are taking place on Wednesday 7th April, the hour-long workshops will be led by a member of our expert Performing Arts team. Each workshop will focus on a different area, with the first session being dedicated to Jazz Dance Technique and the second a fun, vibrant Dance for Musical Theatre session.

After the workshops, there will also be an opportunity for pupils to join our tutors for a live Q&A session to ask any questions they may have about joining us in September to study Dance or Musical Theatre.

Once they have signed up they will receive a confirmation email via Eventbrite, including a link to the Zoom link and numerous reminders with the link closer to the event. Spaces are filling up quickly already so please don’t let your pupils miss out on this amazing opportunity.

Our Apprenticeship provider partners, Total People have developed a range of Traineeships to enable 16 to 24-year-olds to gain valuable work experience and the work-readiness skills to show employers that they are prepared and committed to the workplace.

Completely free and full funded by the government, Traineeships are a combination of work experience and study that give pupils a head start in their career.

They offer a taste of what it’s like to work in a variety of industries so young people can have a better idea of what business they would like to work in.

They give students:

Ø Real work experience in a real workplace to develop their practical skills, knowledge and workplace behaviours

Ø Training to prepare them for work, including CV writing and what to expect in the workplace

Ø Support to improve their English, maths and digital skills if needed

Ø Sector focused vocational learning to help prepare them for their apprenticeship or job and recognition of their learning

Ø Tailored learning and training to meet their needs and prepare them for what local businesses are looking for

Unfortunately, due to the COVID crisis, Lynsey our Positive Steps Careers Adviser will not be able attend Hollingworth for the time being. However, every effort will be made to allow Lynsey to make contact with pupils who may have already requested an appointment with her. APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES ROCHDALE, OLDHAM & MIDDLETON

There are 90 apprenticeships and 42 traineeships vacancies at the moment in the Rochdale, Oldham and Middleton area. These range from Administration, Childcare, Commis Chef, Customer Service, Dental, Engineering, Health & Social Care, Motor Vehicle, Logistics (Warehousing) to name but a few.

If you are interested in an apprenticeship or traineeship after leaving Hollingworth in the summer, I would recommend that you take a look at what is on offer. Whilst you may not yet be eligible to apply, it is interesting to note what range of opportunities that there may be open to you.
